The author of the book is Issa Alexandrovich Pliev (1903-1979) - Soviet military commander, army general (1962). Commander of the North Caucasian Military District in 1958-1968.
Twice Hero of the Soviet Union (1944, 1945). Hero of the Mongolian People's Republic (1971).
During the Great Patriotic War, he commanded troops in the Moscow and Stalingrad battles, in Melitopol, Bereznegovat-Snigirev, Odessa, Byelorussian, Budapest and Prague operations. For the skilful management of troops during the crossing of the Southern Bug River, in the battles for Odessa and the courage and heroism displayed at the same time Pliev was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union.
During the Soviet-Japanese war, he commanded a horse-mechanized group in the Khingano-Mukden operation in 1945, and was awarded the second star of the Hero of the Soviet Union for the defeat of the Kwantung Army.        The author of the book describes the battles for the cities of Novy Bug, Razdelnaya, Odessa, tells about the participation of Soviet troops in the liberation of Hungary, Romania, Czechoslovakia, tells about the defeat in August-September 1945 of the main Japanese land forces - the Kwantung Army.
