Antique Chicago Apparatus Company hand crank generator dynamo science instrument

Here is an odd antique hand crank machine of some kind that looks to be a dynamo or magneto generator but I am unsure. It has a name plate from the Chicago Apparatus Company. Offered as found with age, wear and tear, etc. although I did dust it off with a dry paintbrush and used Windex on it with a little sponge. It is actually in pretty good shape for its age if you ask me. It came from the cellar of an old house in Naugatuck CT where I am cleaning out a barn on the property in my spare time. I don't know if it actually works but it spins and  moves freely using the little hand crank handle . See pics and ask questions in advance please. The base is about 12"x7" and the machine  about 10" high on spinning field generating head. Weighs over 12lbs. I took a picture for scale with my rescue cat Ona whom was abandoned after she lost an eye. She has been rehabilitated and is quite comfortable and spoiled here and has blossomed into a cute and cuddly 28 pound full fledged family member.  This item will be shipped via UPS to keep shipping costs down as it will be a good sized box that will weigh about 15 pounds!
